Just A Man And His Will To Survive

Well, when there is ecstacy (Leo's head mauling), there must also be agony (tales of Sally Kirkland's breast friend). Where there is ying (Tom's face squirting), there must also be yang; and so it is that today, we have the sad news that Roy Horn, of Las Vegas superstar duo Siegfried and Roy fame, has gone back to the Fatherland to check himself into rehab, according to CNN:
Illusionist Roy Horn has checked into a German rehabilitation facility, 18 months after a near-fatal tiger mauling during a performance left him partially paralyzed.

"Siegfried and I are thrilled to return to our home country and excited with the programs set forth by the great doctors and staff at the world-class Leonardis Clinic," Horn said in a statement Friday. "The support we have received from our fans in Germany has been overwhelming and continues to inspire me daily."

No details of the 60-year-old Horn's condition or treatment were released. The rehabilitation facility is in Bad Hellibrun.

Horn, of the famed duo "Siegfried & Roy," was attacked by a 380-pound tiger named Montecore during a live show October 3, 2003, at The Mirage resort in Las Vegas. The 7-year-old tiger bit into the performer's neck and dragged him off the stage.

The illusionist sustained four deep wounds and had a stroke. The tiger's teeth damaged an artery that carries oxygen to the brain, and crushed Horn's trachea.

Horn has said he fainted during the performance and the tiger was trying to help him. Animal experts have disputed that theory.

Doctors have said Horn was lucky to survive.

I find it very touching that Siegfried accompanied his "roommate" Roy on his journey through the rehabilitation process. What a devoted fellow illusionist/male friend he is!

Hmmmm. I wonder what Roy got addicted to? Pain-killers? Booze? Tiger porn? All of the above? Perhaps we shall never know the full truth. Perhaps we shouldn't know...

Here's to a happy return...

...gayer times!

And to help you on your long road to recovery, here are some extra-special inspirational lyrics from which you may be able to draw strength:

"Risin' up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive

So many times, it happens too fast
You change your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

It's the eye of the tiger, it's the cream of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
And he's watchin' us all in the eye of the tiger

Face to face, out in the heat
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry
They stack the odds 'til we take to the street
For we kill with the skill to survive

Risin' up, straight to the top
Have the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive

The eye of the tiger (repeats out)..."

Kind of eery, huh? It's like Survivor is singing directly to you, Roy. Even their name is spookily apropos!

We love you Roy! We want you to feel grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!

Good luck, or as you say in your native tongue, viel Glueck!

As Richard M. has pointed out, I may be reading more into "rehabilitation facility" than actually exists; perhaps it is simply more physical therapy for his injuries? It's all so vague and Teutonic that I can't tell. Either way, the song still works!
